The Lord Jesus came into the world, with net in hand, to make a great catch happen. It was a catch not of fish he came for, but of human sinners, drowning in the sea of their sin, and in dire need of rescue. Since we did not have the strength or wisdom to climb into the safety of his boat ourselves, he needed to accomplish our rescue without our help. It was totally up to him. The net with which he catches us is his Gospel, the message of “I have come to rescue you by forgiving you.” By this net, we are hauled safe and sound into his boat and brought safely to an eternal shore!
