In sin, we strive to make a name for ourselves, based on our own power and works and influence. How we want to be known for these things, that our name will rise above all others. But we do not deserve such (self) accolades. As Christians, we confess something entirely different: that we are nothing in ourselves, but have been chosen, by grace, to believe and proclaim the name of Christ with one voice, along with all his works, power, and influence, which deserve all accolades. You are invited to read this sermon on this topic, titled, “Chosen to Bear the Saving Name of Christ,” a sermon based on 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.
