Low Seat, High Seat

The celebrity in us thinks that we deserve the best seats in life. The celebrity in us thinks that we can do no wrong. But Jesus says, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled.” This is a call to repentance. If we think ourselves great in this life, we will learn the truth in the next: we are unworthy sinners, and will have an eternity of judgment in hell to suffer because of it. If, in repentance, we confess ourselves as unworthy sinners now, and in faith look to Jesus, God’s Son, who humbled himself in our place at the cross in hell, God shall seat us with him in his home forever. “Whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Find the sermon, “First, Take the Seat You Know You Deserve” based on Luke 14:1,7-11.
