Leaving home for the first time is hard, very hard, for a child to do. But do it the child must. It is part of growing up into adulthood. Life beckons, and it must be sought. Abraham was a man who left his father’s home, but his leaving was unique: the Lord called him to leave in order to bless him with a great, great promise. He hold Abraham that from him, and through his family line of descendants, the Messiah would enter the world, the divine Son of God, born human. Abraham left his father’s home that this would be fulfilled, even as the Son of God left his Father’s home in heaven to be born in order to die, Jesus Christ, that sinners might gain welcome in the Father’s heavenly home through faith in his name. You are invited to read the sermon on this topic, “Leaving Home in The Hope of Promise,” based on Genesis 12:1-8.
