In the law of God we find no rest. The law of God, in teaching us to love God and neighbor perfectly, reveals our sins because we don’t love God or neighbor perfectly, even at all, not when compared to God’s love, which is perfect. We are selfish at our core because of sin. So when we hear the law we find no rest, only guilt. But God provides for us a Sabbath, a rest from guilt. We hear it in his promise, the Gospel, and the Gospel means Jesus. He is our Sabbath, he is the Lord of rest. He came to forgive our sins at the cross and in this blessing we are put at rest, now and forever in heaven above. Please find the sermon titled, “Jesus, The Lord of Rest,” based on Amos 8:4-7.
