The Lord Jesus came to forgive our debts against God and neighbor. In our sinfulness, we deny we have debts that need forgiving by God or anyone. Yet, when the Holy Spirit brings us to repentance, we begin to understand: every time we sin it is a debt we must repay, but even one sin is a debt too great for us to repay. The Holy Spirit has shown us, in this, our need for Jesus. He paid the debt we owed in full by shedding his blood and offering his life unto death at the cross. When the Holy Spirit brings us to faith to trust in him, how much love for our Lord wells up in us!
