We thank God for fatherhood and the responsibilities he has given to fathers to provide for their children, protect them from evil, and to train up their children in his saving Word. In God’s Word, we learn that God is our heavenly Father who so loved us all, his children, by sending his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish in sin, but have eternal life. Impress upon fathers the importance of their divine task to their children. Grant wives a humble and willing spirit to support their husbands in the home. Grant children the faith to believe in Jesus, whom the Father sent, and a spirit of obedience by which they honor their earthly fathers as gifts from the Father above. You are invited to read the sermon, “Fatherhood and the Fourth Commandment,” based on Ephesians 6:1-4.
