We would all like to have a friend in a high place. It called having connections with people who have connections. It doesn’t hurt. When we believe in Jesus as God’s Son, risen from the dead, and ascended to heaven, we have a friend in the very highest place: on the Throne of God. This is what the Church celebrates on Ascension Sunday. From the Throne of God, Jesus teaches truth by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. He hears our prayers and answers them. He also guides and protects us all our life long. Come and hear this sermon based on Ephesians 1:16-23

All other friends do fail each other at times, but Jesus never fails us. Even when we rejected him in our sins, Jesus did not fail to lay down his life for us to take our sins away. He has proven his friendship to us by this great sacrifice. He has even sought us out that we might believe in him for this! What a friend we have in Jesus, our truest friend, who is the foundation of all healthy, lasting friendships.

Dead in trespasses and sins, that’s the way the Bible describes us all. We are spiritually dead in the sin of Adam and Eve. Spiritual deadness is rejection of the one true God, who is God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. How shall we live again in him? The Son of God entered the world as a living vine, Jesus Christ. He came came to graft sinners into himself in order to give us the nourishing, live-giving sap of forgiveness, which he won for us on the tree of death, the cross. He who is now risen grafts us in by bringing us out of unbelief and into faith by the biblical Word of God.

We are closed to God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ, his only Son. who suffered and died to take away our sins, and rose again to bring us eternal life. Instead, we view Christ as a threat–he shows us our sins–we don’t like that. He tells us he is one who can forgive sin for salvation–but we say, I’ll get there on my own. How shall our minds open to him? Only he can do it through his Word. Come and hear this sermon based on Luke 24:36-49

The world clamors for peace. Why can nation lay down it arms against nation? Why can’t terrorists repent of their killing agenda? Are we so powerless to stop ourselves? But the answer is obvious: we are powerless to stop ourselves, and therefore warfare will never cease. Yet Jesus, the eternal Son of God, risen bodily from death, has won the peace: not between nations, but between sinful mankind and God the Father. The peace he has won is everlasting–he died for all sins and rose again from death. Believe it and be saved from this warring world.

His appointment to keep with the cross was approaching. He did not run, but rather entered into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The crowd which praised him that day didn’t know it, but he was riding in to die for the sins of all people. How could he do it, something so difficult and dreaful? It was because of grace. He loves us with a love we don’t deserve.

What an amazing two days. Good Friday, which falls on April 6th this year, commemorates the death of God’s eternal, almighty Son, the man Jesus Christ, on a cross for the sins of the world. Easter, which falls on April 8th, commemorates the resurrection of God’s eternal, almighty Son, the man Jesus Christ, from the grave. In his death we receive forgiveness. In his resurrection we receive eternal life and the promise of resurrection for our own bodies on the day he returns. The Apostles of Christ testify that this is true. They saw him die and they saw him resurrected. If you do not believe their testimony, then ask: what was in it for them to lie? Their preaching of the resurrected Christ brought them only life-long trouble with the world. In fact, 11 of the 12 are said to have been executed for their testimony. You see, they did not gather armies for themselves, power, money, or real estate. They preached the message of forgiveness and eternal life in the one they saw die miserably on a cross, but then rise again bodily from death. What an amzing two days to celebrate! We celebrate still, because Christ’s death and resurrection never drain of power to save sinners, which we all are.

PLEASE COME AND JOIN US TO CELEBRATE:
